<image:title>Tasting Journal - Caravaglio Palmento Di Salina Rosso Non Rosso 2022</image:title>
<image:caption>Grapes: Nerello Cappuccio, Sangiovese Looks: A dazzling ruby. On the nose: Immediate musk, with a bit of sulfur, on the reductive side. Blows over to reveal cranberries and strawberries. After an hour open, the wine demurred to have almost no musk and much more raspberry. On the palate: Bright cranberry and strawberry. High acid with a touch of bitterness and a round mouthfeel. Finish is watery, but long — which I wish I could find in more wines. Price Point: 23 EUR / 299 NOK Terningkast: 4/6</image:caption>

<image:caption>Grapes: mostly Corvina and Rodinella Looks: Deep ruby bordering on garnet On the nose: Not particularly pronounced raspberry, figs, and plum. Smoke, leather, and tobacco. On the palate: So much smoke. Really savory vegetal character pairing with figs to create almost like a smoky chutney taste. Overpowering and out of balance, but quite interesting and delicious. Past best by date. Texture was quite nice, and there was relatively little sediment for the age. Structure was there. Price Point: 86 EUR / 1000 NOK at auction Terningkast: 3/6</image:caption>

      <image:title>Tasting Journal - Josmeyer Les Pierrets 2008</image:title>
<image:caption>The Grape: Riesling The Look: Gold and appealing. The Nose: Wow! An island full of tropical fruit and citrus stops you in your tracks. Apricot, mango, pineapple, lemon, lime, and green apple. Candied ginger. Some stone and minerality backing, slate. The Palate: Composed citrus dessert with a tropical coulis. Tastes like a citrus tart with the constituent parts all coming through: lime, lemon, green apple, meringue, mango coulis, a touch of pastry. High acid. Dry, but with a decent amount of residual sugar. I would guess it’s around 5 or 6g/L. That brings out the fruit characteristics even more on the palate and contributes to a round mouthfeel despite the relatively low alcohol for the region (12.5%). Price Point: 32 EUR / 380 NOK at auction Terningkast: 6/6</image:caption>

<image:caption>Grape: Syrah Looks: Deep ruby On the nose: Muddled red and black fruits, difficult to discern, and not particularly intense. A hint of spice and game. Smoke On the palate: A bit more muddled dark fruit. Lacking clarity. Medium everything, solid but unremarkable. Tastes like a good Cotes du Rhone, but with more dark fruit than red. <image:caption>Grape: Riesling The Look: Straw yellow with a touch of green. Pale. On the nose: Lime, slate, honeysuckle, yuzu. Straightforward and good expression of Mosel riesling. Could use a year or two to develop more petroleum. On the palate: Off-dry, crazy high acid. In balance. Surprising amount of body for a 10% alcohol wine, medium. Really effervescent and crisp on the palate. So refreshing. Elevated limeade. Price Point: 53 EUR / 613 NOK at auction Terningkast: 4/6</image:caption>

<image:caption>Grapes: Pignatello and Catarratto (Co-Ferment) The Look: Pale ruby On the nose: Candied cranberries. The fruit character is very “gummy candy” and bright. Reminds me of lifesaver gummies. Earth, volcano, cigar box. Green apple + stem. Really intense and specific fig leaf, rosemary, and oregano. MOUSE. On the palate: Unripe/wild strawberries, pop rocks, a touch of phenolic bitterness. Searing acid. No tannin. Watery finish. Finish is of green apple core / stem and is long and pleasant. Cream. On the palate: Candied lemon, chalk, Welch’s grape juice, cedar, gold apple. Intense flavors. Round in texture with oily mouthfeel, lots of body. Relatively lower acid compared to body (but not low). The hard guava candies they give out at Chinese restaurants. Composed apple mousse cheese cake type dessert. Brioche. On the palate: Kardemommebolle. Lemon meringue pie. Randomly saffron? This is so complex and so balanced. Searingly high acid demurred by cheese and chalk finish. Great bubble character, so fine!
